How to Find and Download Press Releases¶
Search the press releases distributed to your Outlet, read them in a clean editorial layout, and download the text and media for your coverage, all from the Paid Content tab on Wire, where community submissions arrive as structured material instead of a flood of email.
Before You Begin¶
You will need:
- A Wire account associated with an Outlet (see Join an Outlet)
Press releases appear here only after an organization distributes them to your Outlet through Inbox. There is nothing you need to approve or accept first.
A Note for Beta Testers
If you don't see the Paid Content tab, Inbox isn't enabled for your platform yet. Email hello@pluckyworks.org to ask about the beta.
Instructions¶
Open the Paid Content Tab¶
-
Go to the Wire search page at https://wire.pluckyworks.org/search/.
-
In the mode toggle at the top of the sidebar (Stories | Photos | Paid Content), click Paid Content.
The Press Releases page opens, listing everything distributed to your Outlet, newest first.
Search and Filter¶
The sidebar narrows the list:
| Filter | What it does |
|---|---|
| Search box | Matches headline keywords. Check Expanded search to also match the lead and body text, and click the ? next to the search label for the full search syntax. |
| Last 24hrs | Only releases distributed in the last day. |
| Bookmarked | Only releases your Outlet has bookmarked. |
| Urgent only | Only releases the sender marked urgent. |
| Hide Embargoed | Hides releases whose embargo hasn't lifted yet. |
| Content Type | Limits by type: press release, op-ed, sponsored content, media opportunity, or financial report. |
| Distribution Date | After/Before date range. |
| Organization | Type an organization's name to see only its releases. |
Each result row shows the sending organization, the headline, when it was distributed, and badges for anything unusual: Urgent priority, the content type, "Embargoed until …" (greyed out, not yet downloadable), or "Retracted by the submitter".
Use the sort dropdown above the results to switch between Distributed: newest on top and oldest on top.
Save a Search¶
If you run the same search often (your beat, a set of local organizations), click Save this search at the top of the page and give it a name. Saved searches live in the Saved searches… dropdown next to the button, ready to re-run in one click.
Read a Press Release¶
Click a result row to open the release's preview: headline, dateline, body, boilerplate, and the sender's media contact, laid out like a story. The ← Press Releases link at the top returns you to your results.
Download Text and Media¶
-
Click Download, either on a result row or at the top of the preview page.
-
The Download options window offers each attachment individually, plus a Zip bundle (text + media) that packages the full text with every media file in one download.
The legal agreement every sender accepts grants your Outlet the right to reproduce, modify, and quote the material in news coverage.
Note
Downloads are tied to your Outlet. If you browse at the network level without an Outlet role, you can preview releases but not download them. Embargoed releases can't be downloaded by anyone until the embargo lifts.
Bookmark and Subscribe by RSS¶
- Click the bookmark icon on any result row to bookmark a release for your Outlet: every colleague at your Outlet shares the same bookmarks. Filter to them with the Bookmarked toggle.
- To follow new releases from your RSS reader, open any release's Download options window and copy the URL under RSS feed. The feed is specific to your Outlet.
What Happens Next¶
Senders see aggregate engagement numbers for their releases: how many times the headline appeared, how many previews, and how many downloads. They do not see which Outlet or which person did what. Whether and how you cover the announcement remains entirely your call; distribution is delivery, not a publication agreement.
Next Steps¶
- Request a correction or report an organization: when a release has a problem
- Set your paid content prices: for Outlet admins, what senders pay to reach you
Troubleshooting¶
- The list is empty: Only releases distributed to your Outlet appear. Clear the filters (especially Last 24hrs and Bookmarked) and check the date range.
- The Download button says "Embargoed": The sender set an embargo. The button activates the moment the embargo lifts; until then you can see the release is coming but not its content.
- I can preview but not download: You're browsing with a network-level role rather than an Outlet role. Downloads are per-Outlet. Ask your administrator to add you to the Outlet.
- There's no RSS feed in the Download options window: Your Outlet doesn't have a feed issued yet. Ask your Outlet administrator.
- Still stuck? Ask your Group administrator, or email support@pluckyworks.org.
