How to Sign Up by Invitation

This guide covers how to join Plucky Wire by invitation.

There are two types of invitations:

  • Email invitation - You received an email from Plucky Wire with instructions on how to join
  • Signup link - A Plucky Wire user shared a signup URL with you

Sign Up with an Email Invitation

Use this section if you received an email invitation from a Plucky Wire address.

Before You Begin

You will need:

  • An invitation email from Plucky Wire
  • Access to the email inbox where you received the invitation

Instructions

  1. Open the invitation email you received from Plucky Wire.

  2. Click the Accept Invitation link in the email.

  3. Fill in the registration form:

    • Your first and last name
    • Create a password

Your email address is pre-filled from the invitation and cannot be changed.

  4. Click Create Account.

You will be logged in automatically and added to the outlet or network that invited you.

Info

Invitations expire after 3 days and can only be used once.

Troubleshooting

  • My invitation has expired: Contact the administrator who sent the invitation and ask them to send you a new one.

  • I already have a Plucky Wire account with a different email: Contact the administrator who invited you. Ask them to either send the invitation to your existing account's email address, or to add your existing account to the outlet or network directly.

Use this section if an administrator shared a signup URL with you. (These links usually start with https://wire.pluckyworks.org/network-signup/....)

At the end of this process, you'll have registered yourself, joined an Outlet, and joined a Group.

Before You Begin

You will need:

  • A signup link from your network administrator
  • A valid email address
  • Access to your email inbox (for verification)

Instructions

1. Register Yourself

  1. Click the signup link provided by your network administrator.

  2. Enter your information:

    • Email address
    • Password
    • First and last name
  3. Click Continue.

  4. Check your email for a 6-digit verification code.

  5. Enter the verification code on the page and click Verify.

2. Join or Create Your Outlet

After verifying your email, you will choose which news outlet you will represent on Plucky Wire:

  • If you need to create a new outlet...

    1. Select Create a new outlet.
    2. Enter your outlet's name and website URL.
    3. Click Continue.
  • If you want to join an existing outlet...

    1. Search for your outlet by name.
    2. Select your outlet from the search results.
    3. Click Request to Join.

Automatic vs Manual Approvals

If your email address matches the ones we expect to see for your outlet, your request to join an existing outlet will be approved automatically.

Otherwise, an administrator will manually approve your request. We'll let them know that you're waiting. Plucky Wire staff can also assist with this process, so don't be afraid to ask for help if you're on a deadline.

3: Finalize Your Membership

Note

If you're joining an existing group that's already in the target Group, you don't need to do this step. You'll be taken directly to the Search page.

  1. Review the Group's content license agreement.

  2. Review the Plucky Wire Terms of Service.

  3. Check both boxes to accept the terms.

  4. Click Complete Signup.

When you finish, you'll be sent to the Group's Search page.

Next Steps

Now that you're fully registered, the most common next step is to start uploading or downloading stories.

Troubleshooting

  • My signup link has expired: Contact your Group administrator to request a new link.

  • I already have a Plucky Wire account: Log in to your existing account first, then click the signup link. You will skip the email verification step and go directly to outlet selection.

  • I already have a Plucky wire account and I've joined an Outlet: Log in to your existing account first, then click the signup link. You will go directly to the final page, where you can review the Group's terms, then confirm your membership.
